Melinda Newman is a Senior Attorney in the firm’s Labor and Employment Group where she represents clients in employment counseling and litigation matters. As a former federal government attorney, Melinda has significant experience representing managers in administrative matters before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and Merit Systems Protection Board, as well as arbitration matters before the Federal Labor Relations Authority. She also has considerable experience advising management on employees’ reasonable and religious accommodation requests, internal investigations and discrimination complaints, and employee leave and disciplinary matters.
Melinda is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Dallas Bar Association, Labor & Employment Section, and the J.L. Turner Legal Association. She is admitted to practice law in Texas and United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas. Melinda is a member of the Junior League of Collin County where she serves on the project development committee, evaluating new opportunities for nonprofit volunteer assistance.
Melinda was raised in Marshall, Texas and graduated from Marshall High School. She attended Texas A&M University, where she earned her undergraduate degree in accounting. Melinda attended law school at SMU Dedman School of Law. While in law school, she participated in moot court, volunteered in the Federal Tax Clinic, and interned with the Supreme Court of Texas. She received her J.D. from SMU in 2005.
Melinda enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with her family, including her husband, children, and two dogs. She also enjoys a wide range of outdoor activities and currently serves as a leader in her son’s cub scout pack.
