Matthew Earl joined Brown & Fortunato as member of the Health Care Group and is based in the Salt Lake City area. He is a member of the Federal Bar Association and Utah State Bar and is licensed in Utah, New Jersey & Texas. Matthew is admitted to practice law in Utah and the United States Federal Court in the District of Utah.

Matthew’s practice includes assisting hospitals, pharmacies, clinics, and other healthcare providers in navigating complex regulatory and litigation matters. He has demonstrated success in assisting clients defend qui tam lawsuits filed under the False Claims Act, respond to investigative demands, and navigate other federal and state fraud investigations, payer audits, and other matters related to fraud, waste, and abuse. Matthew is well-versed in issues that arise throughout healthcare providers’ revenue cycle, including coding and billing issues, and reimbursement disputes.

Prior to joining the firm, Matthew worked in the Civil Litigation Division of the Utah Attorney General’s Office where he defended state agencies and employees in civil rights, torts, and employment litigation matters. While at the Utah Attorney General’s Office, Matthew developed a special interest in governmental immunity under 42 U.S.C. Section 1983 and Title IX.

Matthew attended Utah State University on a music scholarship. He was recruited to Utah State to start the university’s bagpipe band, the Utah State Scotsmen Pipe & Drum Corps. He graduated from Utah State in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Law and Constitutional Studies.

In 2019, Matthew received his Juris Doctor from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University. While in law school, Matthew was a member of the Trial Advocacy team and worked part-time for the Utah Attorney General’s Office.

Matthew and his wife, Hayden, are avid sports fans and enjoy playing tennis and golf together.
