Michele Fortunato co-founded Brown & Fortunato in 1995, after practicing as a transactional lawyer in Houston and Amarillo. She is currently of counsel to the firm.  Michele has demonstrated skill as a business attorney and warmth as a citizen of the Amarillo community.

Michele’s practice includes corporate, real estate, and business law. She has expertise in business transactions involving acquisitions of businesses and conversions of existing entities. She represents borrowers in complex financial transactions in negotiating and closing credit agreements. She also represents many financial institutions on real estate loans, commercial loans, restructuring and collections. She provides corporate counsel for privately owned concerns and publicly traded companies in connection with the organization and creation of entities, mergers and acquisitions. Her real estate practice includes representing buyers and sellers of commercial real estate, residential real estate and ranches, title companies, developers and construction companies. Michele handles the firm’s health law transactions involving the sales and acquisitions of durable medical equipment companies and pharmacies, and the review and negotiation of hospital contracts and leases.

Michele graduated from Texas Tech University and received a B.A. in English and History. She attended the University of Houston Law Center and was selected for the Houston Law Review where she served as a Research Editor. She was admitted to the Order of the Coif and the Order of the Barons. Michele received her J.D. in 1986, graduating cum laude.

Outside her legal career, she has consistently demonstrated her dedication to civic and community service. Her involvement in the Amarillo community has included service on the boards of several non-profit organizations. In May 2004 Michele was elected a Regent on the Amarillo College Board of Regents. She currently serves on the boards of the Amarillo Museum of Art and the Amarillo College Foundation. She is past President of the Amarillo Area Bar Association. She served in the United Way Campaign Cabinet from 2004-2010. She is a graduate of Leadership Amarillo and has served on the Board of Directors of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce, the Amarillo Parks and Recreation Commission, the Board of Directors for Family Support Services and the Opportunity School. She has been active in the Plemons-Eakle Neighborhood Association as well as the United Way Citizens Budget Committee, and worked as an Amarillo Women’s Network Mentor. Michele is currently a member of the Texas Association of Bank Counsel, and Texas Business Women where she has served as an officer and chaired committees on the local and state levels.

Michele and her husband, David Horsley, share a passion for “old things” and have renovated several historic homes and buildings in Amarillo. They have two adult children.
