Bradley S. Byars serves as a Senior Attorney in the Health Care Group of Brown & Fortunato. Before joining the firm, Brad served as Senior Associate General Counsel to an international private equity backed cancer care company and was primarily responsible for the company’s East coast and Midwest operations.

Brad brings more than a decade of experience in healthcare law, including in roles as in-house corporate counsel and chief compliance officer. He focuses on regulatory compliance, complex healthcare transactions, clinical trials, payer reimbursement strategy, Accountable Care Organizations, Medicare Managed Care Organizations, and operational issues for healthcare organizations of all sizes. Brad has expertise in navigating healthcare regulations, including the Eliminating Kickbacks in Recovery Act, False Claims Act, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, HIPAA/HITECH, and telehealth regulations. His work involves negotiating high-stakes agreements, managing disputes, and offering strategic counsel to healthcare organizations.

Brad has orchestrated operational expansions and achieved cost savings through strategic agreements, while maintaining a stellar compliance record on negotiating and advising on Corporate Integrity Agreements, Stark/AKS Self-Disclosures, Civil Investigative Demands, and anti-trust allegations.

On the transactional front, Brad has guided physician practices through various growth and investment initiatives by assisting with the selection of investment bankers and managing the sale of practices to private equity firms. Brad has also advised national and regional clients in growth efforts by consolidating target physician practices into larger group platforms through strategic roll-up efforts.

Brad holds memberships in several organizations, including the American Bar Association, the American Health Lawyers Association, the Health Care Compliance Association, the American Health Information Management Association, the Medical Group Management Association, and the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Brad is licensed in Missouri and Florida and is an alumnus of Saint Louis University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, graduating summa cum laude. He swam for the SLU Billikens and later coached the swim team while in law school. Brad was named A-10 Student-Athlete of the Year for his academic and athletic excellence.

Brad attended Saint Louis University’s School of Law, obtaining his Juris Doctorate with a concentration in Health Law. He holds a Master of Health Administration and a Master of Laws in Health Law from the same institution. Brad is also Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security.

Brad teaches health law-related topics through the University of Denver’s Master of Health Administration program and is a contributing author to the 5th edition of the Introduction to Healthcare Management textbook.

Brad is a lifelong enthusiast of aquatic pursuits; he enjoys master’s swimming, spearfishing, scuba diving, and sailing, sharing these passions with his wife and two sons.
