LaChiquita V. McCray joined Brown & Fortunato, P.C., in 2016 as a member of the firm’s Health Care Group. She is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Amarillo Bar Association, and the Amarillo Young Lawyers Association.

LaChiquita is from Ferriday, Louisiana. She completed both her Bachelors in English and Masters in Public Health from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

In 2015, LaChiquita received her law degree at the University of Mississippi School of Law in Oxford, Mississippi. While in law school, LaChiquita was a member of the Moot Court Board, a Managing Editor of the Sports Law Review (2014-2015), and a member of several organizations, including the Law Student School Student Body Association (LSSB), Student Health Lawyers Association, Black Law Students Association (BSLA), Dean’s Leadership Council, and the Public Interest Law Foundation. LaChiquita was also an ABA Health Law Contributor.

LaChiquita was also a Top 6 oralist in the Daniel, Coker, Horton, & Bell Moot Court Competition, a Quarter-Finalist in the August A. Rendigs, Jr. National Products Liability Moot Court Competition, and participated as a student coach for the 2014-2015 semi-finalists in the Gabrielli Family Law Competition.

After graduating from law school, LaChiquita received her LL.M. in Health Law from the University of Houston in 2016. During her LL.M., LaChiquita had the opportunity to work with the University of Houston’s Office of General Counsel on a HIPAA project, to complete an externship with the Legal and Regulatory Affairs department at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, and to work as a research assistant for the Health Law and Policy Institute. She also received the Prudential Life Insurance Health Law Scholarship for academic success and interest in Health Law and was the 2015 recipient of the UHLC Health Law & Policy Institute scholarship to fund her attendance to the 2015 Texas Health Law Conference in Austin, Texas.

LaChiquita enjoys spending time with her dog, Angel, family, and friends. She is a huge fan of the LSU Tigers football team and all college basketball. She also enjoys singing, leisurely reading autobiographies and spiritual growth books, listening to live music, and binge-watching crime dramas.
