Matthew Stephen Smith joined Brown & Fortunato, P.C. in 2011, and he practices in oil and gas and litigation. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Amarillo Area Bar Association and the Amarillo Young Lawyers Association.
Matt was born and raised in El Paso, Texas and moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico during high school. He enlisted in the Marine Corps shortly after September 11, 2001. Matt was twice recognized as most outstanding Marine in his Battalion, and he achieved the Marine Corps’ highest marksmanship award three years in a row. At the end of his enlistment he received a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and was honorably discharged. Throughout his service, Matt worked with military attorneys on matters such as courts-martial and investigations. Matt’s experience in the Marine Corps influenced him to attend law school.
When Matt finished his service in the Marines, he returned to New Mexico and attended New Mexico State University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Government and graduated with honors.
In 2008, Matt enrolled at Cornell Law School where he competed in various Moot Court competitions. Matt also studied international law at Bar-Ilan University in Ramat Gan, Israel. Upon his early graduation from Cornell, Matt studied international law at the Universidad de Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Spain.
Matt enjoys reading, travelling, running, and lifting weights.
