Matthew H. Hand is a civil litigator, admitted to practice law in the states of Texas and Oklahoma, and board certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. His practice concentrates on civil litigation, insurance defense and oil and gas law. He joined Brown & Fortunato, P.C. after working in the legal department of Phillips Petroleum Company for seven years.

At Brown & Fortunato, P.C. Matt handles a wide range of civil litigation, including commercial and business litigation, first and third party insurance defense, personal injury, wrongful death, product liability, property damage, oil and gas litigation, and employment discrimination. He also prepares and argues appeals in appellate courts.

Numerous professional affiliations mark Matt's dedication to the legal field. He is a member of the Texas Bar Association, the Oklahoma Bar Association, and the Amarillo Area Bar Association. Matt is also a member of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel. Matt served as a director of the Amarillo Area Young Lawyers Association from 1992 to 1994. Matt has been a speaker at legal seminars sponsored by Amarillo College and the Texas Association of Defense Counsel.

Born in McPherson, Kansas, Matt received his education at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. As an undergraduate, Matt studied Criminal Justice and received his B.A. in 1984. He enrolled in Washburn University's School of Law and earned his J.D. in 1988, graduating with honors.

After graduation, Matt accepted a position with Phillips Petroleum Company's legal department. Matt's duties included responsibility for a wide variety of litigation matters, including personal injury, wrongful death, products liability, toxic tort, environmental pollution, property damage, employment discrimination, commercial litigation, and administrative agency proceedings. He also prepared briefing and oral argument for state and federal appeals, supervised outside and third-party counsel, drafted and reviewed a wide range of commercial transaction documents, and prepared and presented preventative law programs for company employees.

Matt's interests extend beyond his professional career into civic endeavors. He is an Eagle Scout, remains active in the Boy Scouts of America and is currently a Vice President of the local council. He serves on the Board of Directors of Center City of Amarillo, Inc. and the Polk Street Child Development Center. He is also a member and past board member of the Amarillo Downtown Kiwanis.

Matt and his wife, Stacy, have two children, Katharine and Ryan.
