Jeffrey S. Baird is the Chairman of the Health Care Group of Brown & Fortunato, P.C. The Health Care Group represents an extensive client base of home medical equipment ("HME") companies, pharmacies, hospitals and other health care providers throughout the United States.

Jeff works with an impressive team of attorneys who specialize in all areas affecting the HME, pharmacy and hospital industries and affecting other health care professionals. The firm's Health Care Group works closely with the Department of Justice, Office of Inspector General, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, National Supplier Clearinghouse, Medicare Administrative Conctractors, Food and Drug Administration, state Medicaid programs, state pharmacy licensing boards, and other federal and state regulatory agencies.

Jeff plays a crucial role both in representing the firm's health care clients and in shaping the development of the firm's respected Health Care Group.

Born in Evansville, Indiana, Jeff attended the University of Iowa where he received his B.B.A. in 1975 in Finance with an area of concentration in Quantitative Analysis. While at the University of Iowa, Jeff wrestled for two years on the university's nationally ranked wrestling team. He continued his education at the University of Tulsa College of Law and was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1978. Jeff is a member of the Health Law Section of the State Bar of Texas and the American Health Lawyers Association, and is board certified in Health Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

Jeff has always considered education of the HME and pharmacy industries to be a high priority. He speaks at numerous state, regional and national HME and pharmacy conferences on topics ranging from marketing strategies to fraud and abuse. His articles cover a variety of health law topics and can be found in publications such as Home Health Care Dealer Provider and HME News. Jeff serves on the Educational Planning Committee for Medtrade and on the Educational Advisory Board for Home Health Care Dealer Provider. In addition to speaking to industry groups, Jeff has also presented a program to attorneys and compliance officers at the Fraud and Compliance Forum sponsored by the American Health Lawyers Association.

Jeff advises health care providers on an array of issues: fraud and abuse; defense of criminal and civil fraud investigations;defense of qui tam actions; corporate compliance; HIPAA compliance; accreditation preparation; mergers and acquisitions; joint equity arrangements, affiliations and alliances; reimbursement issues; supplier and provider number issues; requirements pertaining to licenses, permits and certifications; peer review and credentialing; pharmacy compounding; and Food and Drug Administration regulatory issues.

Jeff and his wife, Nikki, are the parents of four children.
